What does moving do to a manufactured home?
A move can stress the parts of the home that carry its weight and hold its sections together. An engineer focuses on three areas: the frame and chassis, the connections between sections, and the supports and anchors at the new site.
What happens to the frame and chassis?
The frame and chassis sit under the home and carry it. During inspection, the engineer looks for distortion, damage, weld changes, and corrosion.
The engineer also looks for evidence that the frame is carrying the home as intended. That is why the home is inspected on site rather than judged from papers.
What about the connections between sections?
A multi-section home is joined along the marriage line, where the sections meet. After a move, the engineer verifies those connections and looks for visible signs of movement between the sections.
This part of the review applies to multi-section homes.
What about the supports and anchors at the new site?
A home is set up again at each new location, so the support system there matters as much as the home itself. The review covers piers, footings, anchors, and tie-downs, and the load path they create from the home to the ground.
A support system that was right for the first site is not automatically right for the second. For the foundation side, see foundation requirements after a move.
Does a move always cause damage?
Not necessarily. The inspection exists to answer the question with evidence rather than assumption, and it documents current conditions within the agreed scope.
If the engineer does find something, ask what it means, what further information or work is needed, and whether another visit or a separate scope is involved. Get the fee and timing before you authorize more work.
What does the report say?
The engineer gives a structural opinion based on what was observed and signs the report. Your lender then reviews it with the rest of the file and decides what follows. We cannot promise that a particular home or loan will qualify.
To see how this fits together, read what is a structural integrity report. Our structural integrity report service covers this inspection.
